The Traditional Program is BBBS’ oldest and most well known mentoring program. In the Traditional Program, “Bigs” are asked to commit to the program for at least one year, and are asked to spend a couple of hours with their Little every other week. We also ask that Bigs place a phone call to their little during their “off” week. Bigs and Littles spend quality time together at the park, a ball game, the movies, or just kicking back and watching TV. Remember, being a Big is about spending time, not money!
Matches are made based on common traits, likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests and geographic location. For instance, if BBBS recruits a Big Sister that enjoys sports, the agency is going to match that volunteer with a Little that has the same interests. That's what makes our matches work and helps build an instant relationship. Click here to print out the volenteer enrollment formhttp://susqubbbs.org/doc/VOLUNTEER_PRE_ENROLLMENT-APPLICATION.doc
School Based Program
College or high school volunteers are recruited to serve as mentors to elementary and middle school age students. Both "Bigs" and "Littles" are benifited by this program. "Bigs" benefit from gaining community service useful for graduation projects, and national honor society hours, as well as, having the good feeling of having someone look up to them. "Littles" gain knowledge and help with homework, confidence, decision making and other challenging social skills. The School-based program takes place on school grounds after school hours. Students are usely allowed to ride the activity bus home.
